24 hours in Boston Guide
Boston, baby! I was intimated tackling such a big city in such little time but, in the winter a short trip was the perfect dose of Boston. This city has so much personality! Between the old and new, every street offers a view. My husband and I went in December so it was cold to say the least.
To make our way around the city, we rented a Toyota 4 Runner through Sixt.
We were very impressed with the car and had to use 4x4 multiple times because of the snow. Once we parked at the hotel, we walked to most places in Boston. Our decision to rent a car was mainly because we were visiting several cities surrounded Boston during our trip.
There is a plethora of good hotels to choose from but we landed on the Revere Hotel Boston Common mainly because the location is great.
It is close to pretty much everything! The rooms are quiet and comfortable. They held our luggage for us since we arrived before check-in time.
We flew into Logan Airport around lunch time and hit the ground running. We walked straight to the Black Rose for lunch and beer! It was very crowded but we were seated within 20 minutes. The food was worth a much longer wait. I ordered the Shepard’s Pie Fries to start and I honestly think about them all the time.
If you get the chance to walk around some of Boston’s public parks, I think it is well worth the time. Because we were there in December, we had to pick just one park to see before it got dark at 4:00pm. I would suggest finishing most outdoor activities early in the day and save your eating and drinking for the afternoon!
We chose to walk around Public Garden and I would say we chose well.
This park was picture perfect. There was love in the air with people playing music and couples strolling around holding hands. What a great place to sit on a bench and really take it all in!
After an afternoon walking around, we decided to go bar hopping. We stopped at Union Oyster House to catch the tail end of the FIFA World Cup. This was the perfect place to sit at the bar and watch a good game. This area is filled with bars and great restaurants. Being close to the water this is a lively and crowded area. There were people playing music and dancing in the streets!
For some late night spirits, we stopped at Yvonne’s.
This place was quirky and delicious. We didn’t have a reservation but they had seats at the bar downstairs. The walls were covered in books and it totally reminded of long nights studying in the library but with a cocktail and 100 of your favorite people. These bars and restaurants are always pretty crowded so be kind to your neighbor and help each other out when walking up to the bar and ordering drinks! I highly recommend ordering the “Lazy Lobster Dumplings.” These things are anything but lazy. If you enjoy ricotta and truffle butter, this is your dish. I paired with an espresso martini but several of the drinks that passed by at the bar were on fire. You read that right, the drinks were on fire. Pretty sure any cocktail made here will result in a happy customer!
Before leaving the next morning, we made my favorite stop of the trip. For breakfast we decided on Brookline Lunch and it was nothing short of an experience.
This place will make you feel like a local. The staff members have never met a stranger and welcomed us in from the cold with hot chocolate and one of the best meals we had. I ordered the “The 35” which is a breakfast sandwich with bacon, eggs, cheese and veggies. It was a delightful classic with a middle eastern twist. The bread is toasted to perfection and veggies are packed with flavor. Needless to say, my husband and I didn’t make much conversation once we tasted our food. If you get the chance to pop in, don’t forget to sign the wall and tell the chef hello for me! He is one of a kind.
Whether you are waiting for your 2:30 flight home or heading to Boston College for a game, I have to recommend Lakon Paris Patisserie. About an hour outside of Boston, it is worth every mile. If you enjoy unique and delicious all in one bite, this is your spot.
